It is important that parents take uninterrupted time out as a couple without anxiously awaiting the return of the children, says psychologist Michael Thompson, author of “Homesick and Happy: How Time Away From Parents Can Help a Child Grow.” “If you spend the whole time worrying about whether your child has a good camp experience, you’re not using the opportunity to refresh your relationship,” Dr. Thompson says.
